
The survey shows that overall advertising expenditures grew from Bt7.7 billion in October last year to Bt8.3 billion last month.
Ad spending declined in only three media: radio, magazine and outdoor. And the month saw growth in newspaper and in-store media for the first time this year.
According to Nielsen, TV ad spending grew 11.53 per cent in October to Bt4.9 billion, while newspaper ad spending grew 0.7 per cent to Bt1.28 billion. Cinema ad spending grew 59.2 per cent last month to Bt476 million, and transit ad spending grew 16.6 per cent to Bt133 million. Ad spending on in-store media also grew 17.4 per cent last month to Bt74 million, and Internet ad spending grew significantly, by 81.2 per cent, to Bt29 million.
However, radio ad spending dropped 7.2 per cent last month to Bt567 million, and magazine spending dropped 22.5 per cent to Bt440 million. Outdoor ad spending also dropped 7.7 per cent last month, to Bt321 million.
Top spending brands in October were Coke Soft Drink (Bt93.6 million), Thai Life Insurance (Bt88.3 million), Happy Mobile Phone System (Bt72.9 million), Pond's Facial Skincare Product (Bt66.7 million), Oil of Olay Facial Skincare Product (Bt64.2 million), Clear Anti Dandruff Shampoos (Bt59.5 million), AIS Communication Corporate (Bt55.9 million), Citra Body Skincare Product (Bt55.3 million), Nutrilite Supplementary Food (Bt55 million), and L'Oreal Facial Skincare Product (Bt52.9 million).
Nielsen's survey also reported overall media expenditures in the first 10 months of this year dropping 1.46 per cent compared to the same period last year, to Bt73.4 billion.
TV ad spending grew by 1.8 per cent in the first 10 months of this year to Bt43.2 billion, and cinema ad spending grew 14.5 per cent to Bt3.8 billion in the first 10 months.
Transit ad spending also grew 30.4 per cent in the first 10 months of the year, to Bt1.4 billion, and in-store ad spending grew 1.4 per cent to Bt689 million. Internet ad spending also grew 31.3 per cent in the period, to Bt197 million.
Radio ad spending however dropped significantly by 12.1 per cent in the first 10 months of the year to about Bt5 billion. Newspaper ad spending also dropped 10.1 per cent in the first 10 months of the year to Bt11.2 billion, and magazine ad spending dropped 11.9 per cent to Bt4.3 billion. Outdoor ad spending also dropped 5.5 per cent in the first 10 months of the year compared to the same period last year, to Bt3.3 billion.
