Local tour agent complains over Cambodian conflict

Si Sa Ket-based Aveeya Angkor Travel Co Ltd reported a loss of a few million from the cancellation of trips to famous Cambodian destinations - Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. The company earlier sold tour packages to about 80-100 clients.

Duangruedee Aphaphol, an executive of the company, said "Local residents know what happens, but those in the inner part of the country don't and the locals suffer. As clients are in fear, they have switched to Laos or Vietnam. The diplomatic wrangling has hurt the local business, as all reservation is cancelled and all suffer including drivers and guides."

She noted that the Cambodian destinations still welcomed foreign tourists from China, Laos, Japan, Singapore and South Korea. This wrangling hurts only Thai companies, and some suffered from liquidity shortage as packages are cancelled.
