Sugar financial advance endorsed
The Sugar Industry Trade, Thai Sugar Manufacturing Association and Thai Sugar Millers Corp will take responsibility for advancing Bt30 per tonne to sugarcane growers to facilitate harvesting the new crop.
Prakit Prateepasen, chairman of the cooperation committee, said yesterday that they have to provide advanced financial support to growers so they have working capital for this new harvest season starting on November 18.
Sugarcane growers have faced delayed payments of the final sugarcane price due to vacancies on the Office of Cane and Sugarcane Board.
The final sugar price has been quoted at Bt918 per tonne for the 2008/2009 harvest season.
However, next year's price is expected to reach Bt1,000 per tonne.
