Much of the growth came from shipments of phones priced below US$100 (Bt3,340), particularly house brands. House brands - the local term for smaller Thailand and China-based handset manufacturers - have been growing in popularity recently.
"With the uncertain economic conditions, we are seeing a shift in preference for low-end phones, accounting for 25 per cent of unit shipments in the second quarter," said Wanwadee Tiavongsuvan, market analyst for Telecommunications Research at IDC Thailand.
