Govt brainstorms over opposition moves abroad
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Monday called a meeting of security agencies to adjust the government's strategies, fearing the political manoeuvrings by the Opposition could adversely affect the country’s relations with neighbouring countries.
Army Chief Gen Anupong Paochinda, National Security Council secretary-general Thawil Pliansri, Foreign Ministry permanent-secretary and
Democrat Party party list MP Kraisak Choonhavan attended the meeting at Ban Pitsanulok.
Kraisak said the meeting discussed the need to adjust the government’s strategies on national security after the opposition had resorted to a political tactic to discredit the government andt hurt the country’s ties with neighboring countries.
The meeting touched on the problems in the restive south but did not stress so much on the upcoming visit of
Pheu Thai Party chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh to Malaysia and Burma as security officials believe the two countries’ stance is different from that of Cambodia.
