RETURN OF SAXENA

Saxena to be detained in police's cell : spokesman

Doctors who examined Rakesh Saxena, 57, extradited from Canada, said his health condition is good enough to give statements to police and to be detained at Crime Suppression Bureau's cell.

Earlier there was concerns that Rakesh would possibly be unable to enter police interrogation due to his poor health. Saxena had reportedly suffered from stroke earlier this year and he had to be on wheelchair since then.

Thai police have prepared a room and a team of doctors for him who arrived from Canada nearly midnight on Friday at Police Hospital in case he could not stay in police's cell.

However Police spokesman Pol Lt Gen Pongsathat Pongcharoen said a team of doctors at the bureau examined Saxena and concluded that his health is good enough to give statement to police and he could stay in police's cell.

Upon arrival in Bangkok at about 10.45pm, Rakesh was charged of embezzlement which he denied. He then was taken to Crime Suppression Bureau where a team of doctors was waiting to check his health condition.

TV footage showed Saxena arrived at the bureau at about 2.15am on Saturday lying on a bed. Police had to carry the bed he was lying up to the second floor of the bureau.

It is reported that Saxena seemed to be tired after long flight from Canada and then several more hours at the airport where he was charged of embezzlements.

Saxena will go to a Criminal Court at 9am and police will seek court permission to detain him, Pongsathat said.
