
Panel chairman Pana Thongmeearkom said yesterday that it would then submit its decision for approval by the National Telecommunications Commission.
The working group held a public hearing on the licence fees yesterday.
The proposed fees for the licences, which will be valid for one year, are Bt25,000 for areas with high commercial potential, Bt10,000 for medium commercial potential and Bt,5000 for low commercial potential.
The application and licence fees will be waived for areas with no commercial potential in order to give broadcasters an incentive to operate the service.
Most of the estimated 700 cable-TV operators across the country operate in lucrative areas. These businesses have about 2.5 million household subscribers, representing 10 million viewers.
Existing and prospective cable-TV operators would be required to apply for a licence within 120 days of the regulations being published in the
Royal Gazette.The working group will soon draft cable-TV regulations governing copyright protection, advertising and content.
