HRH Princess Chulabhorn Valailak said that HM the King, who was admitted to the hospital about a month ago, has had little exercise over the past weeks.
"It appears his muscles are weak after being in bed for a long time. The physical therapy will need to be a gradual process," the Princess told a gathering of Thai nationals in Italy, which was broadcast through TV poll on Monday night.
HM the King can now walk with the aid of a walker, the princess said, adding that the activities were not fun but boring.
According to the princess, HM the King apparently sometimes argued with his therapists.
"I understand that for HM the King being in hospital for a long time is very boring.
However, he is very strong and determined to do the exercises several times a day.
HM the King is expected to return to the palace soon," the princess said.
"HM the Queen and Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn are at his bedside everyday to see the development of his condition and give him moral support.
"We've tried many ways to make HM the King smile," the princess said, "such as telling him funny stories, showing him movies, and having him listen to good music."
