The Mobile Suit stops off to wow fans in Bangkok

Fans of the iconic Mobile Suit have plenty to celebrate until next Tuesday, as Dex Company brings the Gundam showcase to Bangkok to celebrate the robot's 30th anniversary with a host of activities.

The Bt10-million event features the fibreglass model that was on show in Tokyo, albeit without arms or legs, in an exhibition at Paragon Cineplex.

"The budget is still quite high but definitely worth the money because we have a lot of Gundam fans here and the show will let the Japanese parent company know how popular Gundam is in Thailand," says Vichien Vangveravongsa, general manager of Dream Express, which owns the Gundam copyright here.

There's a Gundam history showcase and a display of posters, T-shirts and models.

Tomorrow, plamo (plastic modelling) guru Mark Bakuc holds a workshop while on Thursday, Play Station 3 gamers can join the "Gundam Musou 2" competition.

On Friday, fans can meet the Fan Pan Thae Gundam, who'll be giving an in-depth talk about the robot.

The highlight of the event takes place on Saturday, when Okawara Kunio, one of three creators of the Gundam franchise along with the story creator Tomino Yoshiyuki and the character's designer Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, stop off at the event.

Okawara is an influential mechanical designer for the Japanese animation industry and the "Mobile Suit Gundam" series. He will give interviews and talk about his work. To win a chance to get his autograph, spend Bt3,000 at the Dex booth and you'll get a coupon in exchange. The 30 winners will be announced on Friday at 6.
