No red shirts in Cha-am and Hua Hin : PM

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Monday vowed not to let anti-government protesters -- the red shirts disrupt the Asean summit in Cha-am and Hua Hin.

What they had done to the Asean Summit at the beach resort town of Pattaya had caused severe damage to the country, Abhisit said, their violent protest eroded confidence of foreign investors and tourists in the country.

"The consequences of their action continue till today. We cannot allow the same incident to repeat. The government will use all-out efforts to prevent the problem,'' he said.

Abhisit also responded to reports that Arisamun Pongreungrong, a red shirted leader who led protesters to invade Pattaya Summit in April, wanted to submit a petition to Asean leaders scheduled to meet in Cha-am and Hua Hin.

Abhisit said it is impossible for Arisamun to do so. "If Khun Arisamun really wishes to do so, I will have somebody to receive the petition from him. But it is no way that he will be allowed to enter the summit's venue."

Meanwhile Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said the government may deploy additional security officials to the summit venues.

Suthep said he will not allow Arisamun to submit a letter to Asean leaders during the summit.
