Bangkok's most active party organiser and electronic-music promoter Retox is celebrating its fifth anniversary tonight with a return engagement by German trance superstar DJ Paul van Dyk.
The Grammy-nominated producer hit the big time in 1993 with his hit remix of Humate's "Love Stimulation" and his own track "For an Angel".
Van Dyk continues to dominate the electronic-music charts, staying at the top of every list of important DJs and twice ranked best in the world in polls by DJ magazine.
And we still managed to get him on the phone.
After your best-of album, what other projects are in the pipeline? I'm already writing music for my next album, which is due out next year.
You've received countless awards. Which topped them all?
It's always an honour when people choose you as the best or most popular in your field, but one that definitely stands out is the medal of honour I received from my country for my charity work, which is also very important to me.
What haven't you accomplished yet?
It doesn't feel like I've done everything yet. That's the great thing about electronic music: there are so many possibilities. I have so many ideas, more ideas than I can actually fit onto an album.
If you weren't a DJ, what would you be?
Maybe a chef in a restaurant, because I love food!
What's in store for the anniversary party tomorrow?
First of all, congratulations to Retox and happy anniversary! I'm happy I could be part of some of the earlier shows. Bangkok will have my 100 per cent, because I always enjoy playing there!
