The faculty conducted the survey in greater Bangkok last week¬
end. The majority of the 1,200 people completing the question¬
naires were female. Most were no older than 30 and half of them
were students.
More than half of the respondents viewed 3G technology as
capable of enhancing their work and communications. Of the total,
about 48 per cent were aware of the technology, while 34 per cent
had heard about it and 18 per cent had never heard of 3G.
About 95 per cent said the technology had benefits, due to its
high-speed data-transmission capacity that could be applied to the
conduct of their business, while 5 per cent said it could bring nega¬
tive impacts such as the use of speedy data transmission in inap¬
propriate ways.
TOT will launch its 3G-2.1GHz service in greater Bangkok on
December 3, with a plan to roll out a 3G network nationwide over
the next two years.
Advanced Info Service, Total Access Communication and True
Move have each provided 3G service on a trial basis in some areas
of Bangkok and in some other provinces on their existing spectra.
