SGA to operate southern China route

Small private airline SGA is planning to spread its wings into southern China next year, after first expanding its network domestically for the coming high season.

Jain Charnnarong, SGA founder and president, yesterday said the airline would operate for the first time between Chiang Mai and Jinghong in southern China, and not to Burma as had been reported.

The Chinese route will be the carrier's first regular overseas operation.

He said Jinghong had greater potential than Burma, as it was becoming a new tourist destination for Thai travellers.

Apart from overseas expansion, Jain said the airline planned to operate the Chiang Mai-Mae Hong Son route from December 5, with four flights a day utilising a Saab 340 aircraft with 33 seats.

The airline will also introduce a daily fight between Chiang Mai and Udon Thani on December 15.

"The two new routes will serve customers in the coming high season," he said.

SGB currently operates 12-seater aircraft domestically with flight times of between 20 minutes and just under an hour.

Its routes are Chiang Mai-Pai, Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai and Suvarnabhumi-Mai Si Island, besides charter services in Thailand and the region.

The airline is offering three special packages to Pai and Mae Hong Son. Travel must take place before the end of February.
