Nokia 5530 XpressMusic

The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is a compact touch-screen phone that will be the new muse for music lovers.

Photo ID: 13593357

With a standard 3.5mm stereo connector, but 4GB on a microSD card for storing tunes and good-quality earphones, it will let you download songs from www.XpressHitList.com, GMM Grammy, RS and Sony Music, free of charge. Simply load them on to your PC or directly into the phone.

Our test proved that the 5530 reproduces music well with the provided earphones. It has a nice bass, particularly when using the Bass Booster equaliser setting.

The phone uses Nokia's S60 5.0 Touch interface, which is easy to use when navigating around the various features.

The 2.9-inch screen is really bright, displaying graphics in 640 x 360 pixels, with up to 16 million colours.

The touch screen is also quite responsive, and is quite large given the device's compact body. It's good for reading Web pages and messages.

If you tilt the phone, the screen stays horizontal, and when you type in horizontal mode, the keyboard comes up so you can use your thumbs. There's also a stylus for more accurate typing.

I tested the phone on True Move's Edge network and had no problem reading and downloading e-mail. There's no Windows Live Messenger Mobile, but I could use the Live Messenger service by visiting Mobile.live.com.

The Nokia 5530 does not have 3G connectivity, but it has wireless Lan connectivity, so it can be used at easily found hotspots like those of TrueMove.

The interface's useful home screen displays a "scrolling" contacts bar that lists 20 people and their latest conversations and media updates.

The screen also has one-touch shortcuts to content and popular social networks like Facebook and MySpace.

And let's not forget the 3.2-megapixel camera. The quality is good enough for a mobile phone.

The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic retails for Bt9,250, and honestly, you'll spend more time listening than talking, because it's so great for downloading songs.
