Tata Young touches down

Tata Young

Pop diva Tata Young made a new chapter of Thai music history when the Don Mueang Airport was closed last night for the launch of her new album "Ready for Love".

Like before boarding in an airport with tight security, over 700 members of the audience including 300 local and foreign journalists attending the event had their belongings scanned at 5pm - three hours before the show was scheduled to kick off with a bang.

The show, titled "Tata Young Takes You to the World", began at about 7.45 pm, shortly after the last flight of the day at the airport.

Nok Air's Boeing 737400 aircraft appeared at the international terminal, being dragged to the outdoor stage at a bay.

After a brief blackout Tata, in sexy golden costume, emerged from the plane singing her first song and the title track "Ready for Love". She was accompanied by a troupe of dancers. Tata spoke to the audience in English and Thai.

The event also was billed as the world premiere for the music video featuring her number "My Bloody Valentine". The onehour concert wrapped with her dance hit "Doom Doom".

Sony Music Thailand spent over Bt1 million for the airport's temporary closure. The Boeing aircraft was borrowed for free by Nok Air, a sponsor of the album.

About 50 international media members covered the concert including those from CCTV of China, Channel News of Singapore, and CNN from the United States.

Sony Music Thailand Managing Director Birathon Kasemsri na Ayudhaya said yesterday that an airport was chosen as the venue because they wanted to make it "look great" with an expected impact on markets in Asia, Australia and Europe.

After Thailand, promotion for the album would also be done later this year by local distributors in other countries of Asia, Japan and Australia, and in Europe next year.

He declined to disclose about the cost of holding the event but he nodded when asked if it was less than Bt5 million. He admitted that the budget was "quite high" for a Thai singer but that the spending was necessary to create "an impact" in the international music scenes.
