The engagement ceremony was private and attended only by family members and VIP guests. The couple exchanged rings at 9.19am.
Given as dowry by the tennis player to his future wife were a two-carat diamond ring that originally belonged to Danai's grandmother, more than a million baht in jewellery, a similar figure in cash and 50-baht-weight of gold. "I have no plans to retire yet. Charinporn will accompany me on my tours,'' said the 28-year-old Danai.
Charinporn, who has been dating the tennis player for five years, shed tears of emotion as she described how Danai proposed to her on April 16. "After we finished dinner, he gave me a bouquet of 29 roses along with a cake which said, "Will You Marry Me?" [in English]. I pretended I hadn't got the message, so he knelt down and repeated the proposal. I just nodded once - I was too emotional to speak,'' said the 25-year-old.
Two wedding receptions will be held - on November 20 in Bangkok and on November 22 in Lampang.
