Thailand to face three-time Champion

Hanoi - Thailand will have a daunting task as they line up to face three-time champions Japan in the 15th Asian Women's Volleyball Championship here today.

After losing to South Korea in the final game of the group round-robin preliminaries on Monday, Thailand, had five points from two wins against one loss to finish second in Pool D.

The Thais go into the second round in group F along with Japan, Taiwan and the Koreans. However, the Thai girls won't have to take on South Korea after already playing them once.

"The South Koreans have an average height of 190cm. We had problems blocking their shots. I don't see such a problem against Japan," Thai head coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai said.

"We have to use jump serves as a weapon to foil Japan's defence. I hope my girls can blunt their power and speed. We are quite confident playing Japan as we've beaten them twice in recent times."
