National Artist Sumet Jumsai's colourful modern architectural landmarks stand tall across Bangkok in such forms as the Cubist-inspired Nation building, and the playful Robot building (Bank of Asia).
Schooled in Paris and England, Sumet's prestigious international building designs have been exhibited globally, including the 1996 Venice Biennale. In 1986 he was included in the "Fifty Leading Architects of the World" show in Vienna. He has also had a solo art exhibition at Galerie Atelier Visconti, Paris, France in 1999, and various group art exhibitions in Thailand and abroad including Toit de la Grande Arche, Paris la Defense, France in 2002
Named after Sumet's studio address in Paris, 25 Rue de Lille, the exhibition's 18 expressive and vibrant oil and pastel compositions reflect the artist's fascination with the forms and shapes of familiar objects, Parisian architecture, Thai seascapes, and masterpieces of western art.
Sumet Jumsai's 25 Rue de Lille will be on display from September 8 through October 3, 2009. H GALLERY is open to the public daily between 10 am and 6 pm. except Tuesdays.
