Tax waiver for spas

The Finance Ministry will soon discuss whether to waive the 10percent business tax on spas, to promote Thailand as a spa hub.

Such a move is expected to draw more tourists and create jobs.

Deputy permanent secretary Satit Rangkasiri said he would bring the issue up with Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij. Benefits from such a waiver would be greater than the loss in revenue, estimated at hundreds of millions of baht.

Spa operators have complained they are subject to the same tax rate as massage parlours even though spa services are healthoriented.
