The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has decided to press ahead with prosecuting villagers for encroaching on national parks.
"We are not going to drop any cases or else we may be perceived as being discriminatory," Manu Thongsri, head of legal affairs for the department, said yesterday.
The department has pursued 60 such cases since 2004, of which 39 have been handed sentences. Manu said the department was willing to negotiate with the suspects before the court issued its ruling.
