DSI studies sufficiency scheme for graft

DSI studies sufficiency scheme for graft

Piyawat Kingke, a senior DSI official

The Department of Special Investigation is looking into suspected graft in the government's sufficiency community scheme.

Products have been distributed to communities across the country but some were clearly bought at an inflated price to the dismay of people.

"The scheme says each solartreated water vending machine costs Bt100,000 but such a product is available elsewhere at just Bt30,000," Piyawat Kingke, a senior DSI official, said yesterday.

A DSI team would soon gather evidence directly from some communities, he said.

Pheu Thai MP Anudit Nakornthap, who heads his party's probe of irregularities in the scheme, would submit documents related to the case to the DSI this week, he said.

After the scheme became mired in scandal, Deputy Prime Minister Korbsak Sabhavasu of the Democrat Party resigned as its chairman.
