Paradorn endorses tonic to boost staying power

With uncertainty still looming over his tennis career, Paradorn Srichaphan plans to run multiple businesses with the latest coming in the form of a dietary supplement that enhances married life.

Although he denies retirement rumours, the former national No 1 appears set for something else in life. He opened a new restaurant called So-Le on Friday and at the same time launched a herbal-product company called Magic Thaiherbs.

But of all the products, including a hand gel, it was a nutrient that caught the attention of the media. Who would have expected a tennis star to sell an adult product?

"From my personal experience, it's good and that's why I bought the licence,'' said Paradorn, who last played a pro match in March 2007.

He hopes his latest business will not tarnish his image as a national hero. In 2003, he became the first Thai and first Asian to reach the world top 10, making him an idol for kids.

"Unlike Viagra, my product is more like a tonic which is good for men's bodies. When men are happy and healthy, they make married life better,'' said Paradorn, who claimed that even Olympic gold medallist Somjit Jongjohor was satisfied with the results.

In terms of tennis, he said his injured wrist had not fully healed and the chance of fans seeing him competing full time again is around 50 per cent. However, he said he is interested in playing doubles at the Thailand Open next month.

"I'm not in a condition to play singles now. I'd love to play the doubles at the Thailand Open, but we'll see if that can happen."
