Kasit to attend Kim's funeral

Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya will represent Thailand at the state funeral of former South Korean president Kim Dae-jung today at Seoul's National Assembly Plaza, according to a Foreign Ministry announcement.

Kim, who held office between 1998 and 2003, died on Tuesday aged 85 after a month-long battle with pneumonia. He is best known for his policy of engagement with North Korea.

Their Majesties the King and Queen as well as Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn sent their condolences on Wednesday over Kim's death to President Lee Myung-bak, the announcement said.
