If I could not do my job, I will not stay : PM

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Friday expressed confidence that he would be able to handle problems of naming new police chief as well as administer the country.

However he said if he could not handle the administration, he should not stay in the job.

"As I am still in the position, I have to administer the country. I still believe I could do my job," he said.

Abhisit was quoted as speaking to a group of Democrat MPs who gathered to give him moral supports at the Democrat Party headquarter.

He also consulted with former Democrat leader Chuan Leekpai, who was also ex-prremier. " I will give the answer to the problems within a few more days."

The process of naming has not yet finished. I will surely find out the solution. I am not under pressure because what I have done for the country.

Asked whether he could dissolve the House, Abhisit said he still believed that there are many solutions to the problems.

On Thursday, Abhisit faced a political embarrassment after the powerful commission in charge of naming the new national police chief failed to make its crucial decision despite Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's intervention.

Following a two-hour debate, the 11-member Police Policy Commission, chaired by the premier, had to postpone the naming of a successor for outgoing police chief Pol General Patcharawat Wongsuwan.
