Thaksin: My corruption conviction is a frame-up
Ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra on Tuesday issued a statement insisting that he was not a fugitive and that the corruption conviction against him was a frame-up.
Thaksin thanked his supporters for signing in the petition to seek Royal pardon for him.
He said he was framed up by his political rivals over the corruption allegation involving the purchase of a plot of land near Ratchadapisek road after his government was brought down by a military coup.
He said the purchase of the land was done with honesty through bidding and his wife offered the highest price. “As then prime minister, I did not abuse my power in the interest of the buyer. Government agencies assured that wife of a prime minister can bid. The accusation that I corrupt is not true,’’ he said.
Thaksin’s statement went on saying the country could not move forward as long as the country lack unity, democracy and justice. Justice will not prevail if there is discrimination. “The law has been interpreted to destroy political rivals. I am the living testimony to this,’’ he said.
