Singers honoured

The Office of the National Culture Commission has honoured the late legendary look-thung singers Surapol Sombatcharoen and Pumpuang Duangchan with the title of Pariya Sinlapin ("Beloved Artist").

The award will be presented to the Sombatcharoen family today, the anniversary of Surapol's death 41 years ago, while a date for the presentation of Pumpuang's award has yet to be determined, Culture Minister Teera Slukpetch said yesterday.

The first person who received this award last year was late look-thung singer Yodrak Salakjai.

The award honours deceased artists and has two categories: Parama Sinlapin ("Master Artist") and Pariya Sinlapin.
