After two weeks of competition, reigning and seven-time champions Brazil, the Netherlands, China, Germany, Japan and Russia have emerged as the top six teams. The third week of competition from today until Sunday will determine the eventual five teams who will join hosts Japan in the finals.
Russia have entered Pool I as the highest-ranked team with nine points from three wins against three losses. The US and Thailand finished eighth and ninth with eight points each. Puerto Rico are in 10th position with seven points.
Thailand head coach Kiattipong Radchatag-riengkai said: "Playing on home soil, we will try our best to beat all teams. But I admit that Thailand have a slim chance of making the cut for the finals. However, anything can happen. I believe my players can beat any side here. If they play with determination, a berth in the finals is within their reach."
Today, Thailand open their campaign against Puerto Rico at 3pm.
