Filipino relatives and supporters gather around the coffin of the late Philippine President Corazon Cory Aquino at the La Salle Greenhills school grounds in Mandaluyong City, east of Manila, Philippines yesterday.

The prime minister and the foreign minister yesterday sent condolences on the death of former Philippine president Corazon Aquino.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, in his message to Philippine President Gloria Arroyo, said the government and the people of Thailand had learned with "deep sadness of the demise of Her Excellency Corazon Aquino and joined with the Republic of the Philippines in mourning".

Aquino's "tireless devotion to peace, stability and democracy for the people of the Republic of the Philippines are well recognised throughout the world and will always be remembered and cherished by all of us with admiration and respect", the PM's message said.

Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya, in a message to his Philippine counterpart Alberto Romulo, said: "Her Excellency Aquino will be remembered for her great contributions during her presidency and beyond to democracy in the Republic of the Philippines and throughout the region."
