Gen Assawin, however, declined to reveal whether they are police officers, military officers or civilians.
"Deputy Police Chief Pol Gen. Thani Somboonsap is now probing the case and gathering more evidence," he said.
"Whether the mastermind behind Mr. Sondhi's murder attempt will be arrested or not depends on evidence."
"I assured Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva this morning (Monday) that the investigation of Mr. Sondhi's case is still in progress without obstruction," he added.
The court earlier issued arrest warrants for two non-commissioned officers for their alleged involvement in the attempt to kill Sondhi.
The two suspects who are still at large are Pol Cpl Worawut Mungsanthi, assigned to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) and Sgt-Maj.1st Class Panya Srihaera, a non-commissioned officer from the Special Warfare Command in Lop Buri.
Assawin said he believes the two suspects will be taken into custody soon.
Sondhi, a key leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) or so-called Yellow Shirts, was ambushed by gunmen in a pick-up truck on his way to work on April 17 early morning.
