House Committee proposes improvement to Nam Phong Airport
Nam Phong Airport in Khon Kaen has the potential to be developed into a commercial airport, to accommodate the Northeast's economic expansion and growing demand for air services, said Panya Sripanya, chairman of the House Committee on Transport.
During his visit to the airport, which is used as a training centre of the Royal Thai Air Force, Panya said that Nam Phong could compliment Khon Kaen Airport, of which surrounding areas are congested and may raise safety concerns.
Though Thai Airways International flies only 3 flights a day to Khon Kaen, Panya said the province would play a more important economic role in the next 4-5 years, and this would make it worthwhile to pour investment into Nam Phong Airport.
