Chantra Purnariksha, secretary-general of the office, said on Friday that three companies have won the approval to extend such coverage to clients, which will cover a total of 1,000 insurers. Under the coverage, out-patients are entitled to double compensation, but not higher than Bt10,000. In-patients are entitled to double compensation, except on room charges. In case of loss of life, some companies add up the compensation by 50 per cent of the insured amount.
About 600 insurers have filed claims related to the flu, for combined compensation of Bt10 million. Most of them are hospitalised and two of them have passed away.
The office also revealed that in the first five months of this year, the insurance industry grew 9.1 per cent.
