Thrill-seekers negociate the wild river
Rolling on the river
When the rains start to fall in Khao Yai National Park, the four-month-long rafting season gets underway along the Hin Phlerng Rapids, much to the delight of Thailand's weekend warriors. Until October, you can join them, as they bounce in rubber boats through a series of wild rapids that vary from Class III to IV. A weekend at Hin Phlerng is not for the fainthearted. Rafters are required to hike up the hill, along a forest trail for about three kilometres before negotiating the boat over the wild rapids.
The rafting station is at Khao Yai National Park's 9th Base in Prachin Buri province. Call (037) 312 284 or visit www.tat8.com.
