Announced in 2007, the plant is operated by its joint investment, Auto Alliance (Thailand) Ltd (AAT).
The plant will increase AAT's auto production capacity to 275,000 units per annum. It will roll out Mazda 2 and Ford Fiesta for domestic market and exports to Asean, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Before this, AAT produced only pick-up trucks for exports to over 130 countries.
David N Alden, president of Ford Asean, said the investment demonstrated AAT's importance in the company's regional operations and intensified its role as the world-class production and export centre.
Since 1995, Ford and Mazda's combined investment in AAT has reached $1.5 billion or about Bt51 billion.
