Call for cleaner aircon systems

The Association of Siamese Architects has urged the owners of buildings nationwide to clean up their air-conditioning systems and use synthetic fibre filters, as a way to prevent the spread of type-A(H1N1) influenza.

Synthetic fibre filters are more efficient than commonly-used aluminium filters in removing pollutants from ventilation systems, the association's president Thaweejit Chandrasakha said.

He estimated that building owners would need to spend between Bt200,000 and Bt250,000 for each structure with a utilisation space of 10,000 square metres. This would be effective in cleaning up air pollution and also reduce any viruses in the air.

He also suggested the clean-up frequency be shortened from every six months to two months.

Opening up the building to fresh air and daylight will also help limit pollution, further removing the virus threat, he said.
