BBL sets to open local bank in China

Thailand's largest bank Bangkok Bank is prepared to open a local business unit in China within this month.

Prasong Uthaisangchai, senior executive vice president, said Bangkok Bank China has passed the authorities' final screening.

"We're under the organisational restructuring, which will include some employees from four branches in the country in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Xiamen," he said. The Shanghai branch is being transformed into the local unit's headquarter. The local unit would have its own executive committee, who does not have to report to the Thai bank's foreign department.

Bangkok Bank filed for the approval late 2007 and won it in April 2008.
