Forty-seven countries representing 1.5 billion people have added their voices to a global campaign for the release of Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
They include countries from the European Union and Asean, in addition to global and regional powers Russia, China, India, the United States and Australia, according to a statement released by the British Embassy yesterday.
Over the last few months, international pressure has been mounting around the world for the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Burma's other political prisoners to be freed.
For the past month the government of the United Kingdom has been supporting the work of a coalition of non-governmental organisations in calling for her immediate release.
