Teerapat Chivapong, sales director of AP Honda, said yesterday that there were 743,224 new bikes being registered in the first half, representing the growth rate of only 15 per cent, lower than the 20-30 per cent forecast.
The number of new bike registration in the first half consisted of 344,603 for automatic transmission bikes, or 46 per cent of total; followed by 18,289 for family/sports bikes or 2 per cent; 5,646 for sports bikes or 1 per cent; and 6,011 for other categories or 1 per cent.
Teerapat said although the overall motorcycle market slowed down due to the economic recession, the new injection technology, PGM-FI, managed to boost the number of new registration.
