NSC chief transferred

Lt Gen Surapon

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved transfer of National Security Council's Secretary General Lt Gen Surapon Puenai-yaka to an inactive post.

They replaced him with his deputy Thawin Piensri. The Cabinet made the decision during its weekly cabinet meeting. Surapon is transferred to be attached to the PM's Office.

An informed source said the transfer was made following his agency's poor handling of the southern crisis.

Surapon was classmate in the Military Preparation School of former PM Thaksin Shinawatra and was appointed the post during the tenure of then PM Samak Sundaravej.
