All varsity courses to be overhauled

The Office of Higher Education Commission (Ohec) will overhaul all college and university courses.

The overhaul will be based on new ministerial regulations, taking effect from the 2010 Academic Year onward.

"All new courses must pass standards set by the new regulations from the very beginning," Ohec secretary-general Sumet Yamnoon said yesterday.

He said all current courses must also be adjusted in line with the new regulations by 2014.

The new standards will be applied to all higher-educational courses from diploma up to doctorate levels.

The new standards require all courses to address students' ethics, knowledge, intellect, relationships and responsibility, as well as analytical skills about figures, communications and IT.

Sumet said the new standards would help all higher-educational institutes develop a quality culture that placed emphasis on students' performance.

"Our new standards are crucial to the quality of Thailand's higher education,' he said.

Ohec has prepared the new regulation, which is about to be signed by Education Minister Jurin Laksanawisit.
