"We know it is difficult for us to compete with China in terms of production. We just expect the opportunity to penetrate the market and sell more products," Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) chairman Santi Vilassakdanont said yesterday.
He said the government should focus on negotiating on agricultural products, for which Thailand has higher potential.
Abhisit is scheduled to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to sign a memorandum of understanding on tightening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
He will also deliver speeches at "Amazing Thailand, Amazing Value" and "Confidence in Thailand" events to promote Thai products and the tourism sector.
Meanwhile, the FTI's monthly survey released yesterday showed that manufacturers' confidence had increased from 76.3 points in April to 78.5 in May.
"The recovery of the global economy and political stability resulted in better confidence. However, the rise in oil prices became their priority concern," said FTI vice chairman Adisak Rohitasune.
Although the automotive sector showed improved confidence, the FTI's Automotive Industry Club reported a drop of 37 per cent year on year in exports over the first five months.
