Classical Thai music suffered a great loss when National Artist, Khru Jaeng Khlaisithong, died yesterday of acute coronary artery disease, at the age of 74.
Khru was known as "chang khab kham hom" - a craftsman who delivered the sweet sound of the sebha (ballad) with graceful uniqueness.
He had been in Siriraj Hospital with a heart condition since February.
Khru Jaeng was born on March 10, 1935, in Suphan Buri. His formidable musical talent earned him the title of National Artist (Performing Art; Music) in 1995.
He received the Rajaruchi Medal (Rama IX) in 1977 and the Royal Cypher Medal (Rama IX) in 1978.
