IBM Thailand addressed the challenge of today's businesses to deliver greater return on their IT investments with new version of DB2. The DB2 version 9.7 helps reduces an even greater amount of space needed to store data, helping clients save up to 75% on related costs including energy - more than any other available database software while offering proven reliability, lower operational costs and supports relational XML data.
For the past 26 years, DB2 has played a pivotal role in shaping the database industry and setting industry trends. This relational database system was developed by a team of IBM researchers who sought to create a new architecture for storing, managing and interacting with digital data to free application developers from the burden of having to know the details of how data was managed. Twenty six years later, DB2 has transformed into a diverse, powerful workhorse relied upon by global companies of all sizes in every industry. Moreover, DB2 and the relational database concept has become the overwhelming choice for the storage of information which, to this day, supports the world economy, including financial records, manufacturing and logistical information, personnel data and much more.
And up to the present in which the information generated by companies continues to grow exponentially, there is a huge burden placed on database infrastructure, with a corresponding increase in costs to manage, power, cool and house more data.
According to IBM, 15 petabytes of new information are being generated each day. Innovations in database software are required to help enterprises combat these issues by better utilizing hardware, improving administration efficiency, easily running applications written from other database software, and generating new intelligence from valuable XML data. In addition, as industries ranging from banking, health care to retail are grappling with the increasing costs of energy while managing, analyzing and accessing information to achieve better business results, the new version of DB2 is delivering clients and partners higher performance and lower energy in order to address those industries' requirements.
"For the past 26 years, DB2 has been part of IBM's history, our pride and our strategy to grow in the future. It is also our pleasure to realize that DB2 is now the driving engine that runs business applications of the top enterprises around the world" said Jadesada Kraisingkorn, country manager, Software Group, IBM Thailand. "With the new innovations and leading edge technology offered in DB2 new version today, IBM is once again delivering clients higher performance, improved productivity, better reliability and the option to lower the cost of managing data." added Jadesada.
The new version of DB2 comes with wide range of powerful features to help clients better manage the data. The highlights include
• The functionality that makes it easier to deploy applications on DB2 from other database software. This includes the support on DB2 for PL/SQL and other concurrency models which enable developers with other database skills to enjoy moving their existing applications and solutions to DB2 without the need of retraining.
• The Deep Compression Technology that helps reduce the amount of storage needed for enterprises' data. Since DB2 new version expands the scope of advanced data row compression to more types of data, it can now further reduce companies' storage requirement while improving operational efficiencies and storage performance.
• The support of pureXML, the industry's leading Native XML database standard. This functionality provides easy application development and integration, more efficient storage and superior performance unmatched by other database software.
In addition to the launch of DB2 version 9.7 today, IBM is also offering special promotion packages that combine Power Systems server with DB2 in order to provide more cost-saving alternatives for many enterprises. The promotion lasts from now until June 30, 2009.
