EC to probe 2 Cabinet members on alleged violation of equity rules

Deputy Interior Minister Thaworn Senniam and Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai will be under the fact-finding investigation on suspicion of holding shares involving state concession, the Election Commission said on Tuesday.

EC secretary general Suthiphon Thaveechaigarn said Thaworn's wife reported equity stakes linked to a state concession and that Porntiva has shares in Thai Airways International.

The fact-finding probe is expected to complete in 30 days. It has been activated by a complaint filed by Senator Ruangkrai Leekitwattana.

Under the Constitution, office holders are banned from holding equity stakes linked with state enterprises or state concessionaires. Equity violations are punishable by the disqualification from office.
