A school suspends classes after student infected by flu

A school in Dusit district suspends its Grade 6 classes for three days after a 11-year-old student of the school was infected by the influenza 2009.

The student had no record of travelling to a foreign country, therefore, the ministry's investigation focused on the school and the boy's classmates.

Other patients of the flu had record of travelling abroad.

Deputy Public Health Minister Manit Nopamornbhodi refused to reveal name of the school.

"Three classes of Grade 6 of the school will be suspended for three days, starting on June 11," he said.

In addition, the ministry will collect samples from 13 students of Grade 6 of the school who have fallen ill with suspicious symptoms.

Earlier Thailand on Wednesday reported three more new cases of the influenza 2009, with one of them having no record of travelling abroad.

The new cases brought the number of patients in Thailand to 16.

Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai said a 11-year-old boy who is receiving medical treatment for the influenza in a hospital did not go to any foreign country like other patients.

"This case is the first of its kind for Thailand and is different from other cases as he has no record of travelling abroad. All other patients went abroad and infected from there," the minister said.

Health team is cooperating with his family to find how the boy was infected by the flu. His school was alerted about his infection, the minister said, students there would be asked to report themselves if they had flu symptoms.

Two other cases were 20-year-old men who travelled to the US and had symptoms when they returned home.

Both had high fever, coughing and running noses. People who had contacts both cases were under observation.

Of the 26,563 cases in 73 countries, 140 were lethal.
