TrueCorp and Apple will hold a meeting today to discuss unconfirmed reports that the unit price of iPhone handsets sold in Thailand will be reduced drastically, a TrueCorp source said yesterday.
TrueCorp is the exclusive operator of Apple's iPhone in Thailand.
The iPhone's price in the US has been cut in half to US$99 (about Bt3,400) ahead of the release of the new model, but it is not yet been revealed whether the cut was initiated by AT&T, the exclusive operator in the US, or by Apple itself.
Announcement soon
The result of the talks will be publicly announced in the next few days. The source said sales of the iPhone had not yet been affected by the reports.
The source said the new iPhone with 32gig capacity will be soon available in Thailand but could not say exactly when or how much it would cost. The 8-GB and 16-GB models currently cost Bt23,000 and Bt28,000 respectively.
When the 32-GB handsets come onto the market here, owners of the 8 and 16gig models will be able to update programmes free of charge at True Shops or through websites, the source said.
