Chairat Sa-nguansue, director-general of the Department of Land Transport, said it was decided at a recent meeting the route would open on June 11.
Trucks from the three countries will be allowed to cross at border checkpoints along the East-West Economic Corridor (EWC) route, which links Burma to Vietnam via Thailand's northern area and Laos. One checkpoint is at Mukdahan (Thailand) and Savannakhet (Laos), the other at the Dansavan (Laos) and Lao Bao (Vietnam) crossing.
In the first stage, each nation will be allowed to run up to 400 trucks across the borders.
The official opening will be held at the two checkpoints simultaneously on June 11.
"Apart from boosting the economies of the three countries and those in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, the EWC route will help upgrade the countries' transportation systems to international standards," Chairat said.
