I'm staying a Democrat: FM Kasit

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya insisted yesterday that he would remain in the ruling Democrat Party although many of his political allies in the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) were forming a new political party.

Kasit said that he would retain his good relationship with the core leaders of the PAD.

A former diplomat, he praised Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, the Democrat leader, as "Thailand's best prime minister and most excellent leader".

"I have no hesitation about this. I will be with the prime minister and the Democrat Party 100 per cent," said the foreign minister.

During the tenure of the previous governments, which the PAD accused of being proxies of fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, Kasit took part in rallies organised by the anti-Thaksin group, including one that led to the seizure of Suvarnabhumi Airport last year. - The Nation on Sunday
