BMA seeks funds to cover revenue shortfall

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is studying ways to raise funds to offset the city's Bt4-billion loss in income, BMA Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra yesterday.

As income from taxes was down by Bt4 billion, the BMA has less money to invest in projects.

BMA executives have discussed the situation. A committee will be assigned to study possible sources for raising funds, including bonds and loans.

Sukhumbhand said the quickest way, in his opinion, was to run charity lotteries. He said this would be proposed to the Cabinet while the Government Lottery Office would go execute it, possibly by the middle of next year. The charity lotteries would be aimed at people's welfare such as a lottery for education and a lottery for hospital building to prevent criticism that the public would be led astray.
