University admission criteria remain unchanged

The University Presidents Council of Thailand (UPCT) has confirmed that there will be no change in the central university admission criteria for the Academic Year 2010.

The chosen criteria are students' accumulative grade-point average (GPAX) and scores from Ordinary National Educational Test (Onet), General Aptitude Test (GAT) as well as Professional Aptitude Test (PAT).

"The weight of each criterion will also remain unchanged," UPCT chairman Dr Pirom Kamolratanakul said yesterday.

He made the announcement after attending a meeting with deans and representatives from professional or academic organisations held to discuss the central university admission criteria for Academic Year 2010.

The UPCT will be handling the central university admission by itself for the first time in the Academic Year 2010, after long relying on other agencies.

Kamol, who is also the president of Chulalongkorn University, said yesterday that any relevant party wishing to change the weight of criterion for Academic Year 2011 should present its plan to UPCT by July 1.

"If we plan to introduce any big changes, we will inform students at least three years in advance," Kamol said.
