OIL PRICES

Oil prices up on Thursday

Retail petrol and diesel prices will go up 80 satang and 60 satang per litre, respectively, with effect on Thursday.

The 95-octane petrol will be Bt31.54 while gasohol with the same octane content at Bt26.54. Diesel B5 will cost Bt21.59.

PTT, the operator of the country's largest oil station network, attributed the increase to the recent spike in global oil prices. Dubai crude oil on May 20 rose to US$58.68 per barrel, while refined petrol at $70.98 and refined diesel at $63.89.

This followed the news that Flint Hills Resources refinery in Texas, with 288,000 barrels of daily refining capacity, was shut down after fires. Meanwhile, a Sunoco refinery in Pennsylvania has not yet resumed operations, after fires on May 17. This may lead to tight supply. Supply could also be affected as the North Sea exploration fields may be closed for maintenance, amid reports of violence in Nigeria.
